German listening practice that leaves time to answer
For beginner German listening practice, make the task smaller before making the audio faster. Work with a short question or request, understand what it means, and give yourself time to say it back.
Practise useful questions as complete phrases
These three are taken word for word from the app's German library, so what you rehearse here is what you will hear there.
- Entschuldigung wie komme ich zum Bahnhof? — Excuse me how do I get to the station?
- Was kostet das? — How much does this cost?
- Können Sie das bitte wiederholen? — Can you repeat please?
Keep the polite request as a whole unit. If the last sentence is difficult, rehearse bitte wiederholen, then add the opening words. Return to the full sentence so it sounds like a request rather than separate vocabulary items.
Separate recognition from recall
First listen and decide what kind of question you heard. Then repeat it. On a later pass, look only at the meaning and attempt the German yourself. You may find that a phrase you understand instantly is still hard to produce. That is a useful signal about what to rehearse next.
Avoid testing yourself on too many new sentences at once. Work through a small group, revisit the difficult ones and finish by saying one useful question without the text.

Connect the phrase to a reply
Asking for a station is only half the exchange. Use illustrated dialogues and Listen & React to pay attention to what comes next. Essential Verbs can also help you rehearse common verb forms with audio. These are focused practice activities, not a certified A1 or exam-preparation course.
